The greatest contribution to the event of a social gathering is the American cocktail. No other country can claim the art of blending spirit-sour-sweet-bitters-garnish as a means to ‘compose’ a balance of taste. The Sidecar, Jack Rose, Manhattan, Martini, Pegu, Aviation, and many others have defined ‘The Hour’ (i.e. cocktail hour) for generations. A finely crafted cocktail or Martini is a plateau of refinement that aides in the moment when one is just beginning to ‘finish’. For the start of an evening meal, is the perfect ‘overture’.
